The Roc Solo®
A safe and effective solution to the growing popularity of solo climbing
(Lead Rope Solo)
Climbing is enjoying a global boom and a steady increase in the number of participants. More than just a sport, outdoor climbing is also a culture and a way of life, with a new generation of connected, discerning climbers seeking pure thrills and absolute confidence. Rope Solo climbing is attracting more and more climbers, drawn by the freedom and personal challenge it offers. The solo climber becomes completely self-reliant in their practice and is solely responsible for their own safety
The problem? Until now, there was no belay system designed for lead rope solo climbing that was both safe and ergonomic, and above all, certified for this activity. The Roc Solo, designed and manufactured in Annecy in the French Alps, meets this need by becoming the first CE-certified belay system for solo climbing, specifically designed for climbing alone, leading without compromising on safety.

How does it work? (Please ensure you read the instructions carefully before using the Roc Solo)
My journey with my Roc Solo®
Fit the rope into the Roc Solo®
Wrap the rope around the Roc Solo pulley using a clove hitch.
Check that the rope is correctly positioned in the Roc Solo and that the anchor point to which the rope is to be attached is secure.
Attach the Roc Solo® to your harness
Use two safety carabiners to ensure a secure attachment, in line with best safety practices.
The Roc Solo fits easily onto your climbing gear and works with various types and diameters of single ropes, ensuring optimal performance.
Self-assessment
Carry out a self-check of your entire safety system; manually test the operation and locking mechanism of the Roc Solo® by quickly moving the rope back and forth in both directions.
When climbing solo, you are solely responsible for your own safety, so these self-assessment steps are essential.
Climb freely and safely
In the event of a fall, the rope’s movement causes the wheel to rotate; this wheel locks once it exceeds a pre-set rotational speed. When the wheel locks, the capstan knot tightens and secures the rope, thereby holding the climber in place.
Thanks to its reliable and responsive braking system, the Roc Solo ensures stable and secure auto-belaying throughout your climb. After a fall, you can easily get back on track to finish your route..
Solo roping is an activity that involves risks. The instructions for use and safety guidelines for the Roc Solo are set out in the user manual and must be strictly followed. The solo climber is solely responsible for their own safety, which depends on a complete belay system that goes beyond the Roc Solo belay equipment itself (for example, the choice of rope, the quality of the main anchoring system, the tying of connecting knots, intermediate anchor points and connecting equipment, the harness, etc.), it is therefore the climber’s responsibility to take all necessary precautions and safety measures to ensure their own safety. Roc Amadeus cannot be held liable for any negligence on the part of the climber.
A self-belay system designed by climbers, for climbers: maximum safety, without compromising on enjoyment
The Roc Solo® offers maximum safety, backed by rigorous testing and official certification. Here’s why it’s the ideal choice for solo climbers:
Ultra-responsive braking
The braking system reacts instantly to stop a fall and reduce the impact force, thereby ensuring maximum safety, even in the event of a serious fall.
Reduction in impact force
Thanks to the friction generated when the clove hitch is tightened around the pulley, the Roc Solo absorbs a large proportion of the energy from a fall, thereby significantly reducing the impact force transmitted to the climber and the equipment.
Over 3,000 tests on test benches and in real-world conditions
The Roc Solo has undergone more than 3,000 tests, carried out in the laboratory and in the field under real climbing conditions. Every potential scenario and every detail has been rigorously analysed, tested and validated to ensure maximum performance and safety in all fall scenarios (lead climbing, top-roping, hanging upside down, rappelling, etc.).
CE certification
The Roc Solo complies with European Regulation (EU) 2016/425, to which it is subject, and meets the most stringent safety requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE).
The Roc Solo has been tested and certified by a notified body (TÜV SUD CE 0123). This independent body carries out an annual surveillance audit of our manufacturing processes to verify production compliance and renew the Roc Solo’s certification.

FAQ
The Roc Solo was designed by climbers for climbers. We believe that solo climbing can be a safe activity when mastered, but also a liberating one. The Roc Solo reflects our passion for innovation, safety and autonomy, whilst respecting the fundamental values of climbing: freedom, enjoyment, commitment and respect for nature. It has been designed to ensure that every solo climber on a rope has access to safe and reliable equipment.
The Roc Solo is designed to offer maximum safety thanks to advanced technologies, such as ultra-responsive braking, impact force reduction, and multiple safety redundancies. These features have been validated by over 3,000 tests carried out in the laboratory and under real-world conditions to ensure maximum safety. In the event of a fall, the movement of the rope causes the wheel to rotate; this wheel locks once it exceeds a predefined rotational speed. When the wheel locks, the clove hitch knot tightens and locks the rope, thereby securing the climber. The locking system is perfectly reproducible and is calibrated to limit rope run-out to a length of less than 60 cm.
No, the Roc Solo has been designed and certified for use with single ropes with diameters between 8.5 mm and 9.7 mm. It performs best with ropes of around 9.5 mm in diameter to ensure optimal smoothness during use (rope feed whilst climbing). Ropes with a larger diameter (for example, 10 or 10.5 mm) can be used and do not pose a safety risk, but will offer a less comfortable climbing experience.
However, Roc Amadeus has conducted numerous tests, in addition to the certification tests, using different weights and has confirmed that the Roc Solo functions correctly with weights ranging from 40 kg up to 120 kg..
The Roc Solo is therefore designed to withstand a very high number of falls, far exceeding what a typical climber is likely to experience during their climbing career.
However, in the event of extremely intensive use of the Roc Solo, we recommend returning it to the manufacturer for inspection and recertification every 3 to 5 years.
Over 3,000 drop tests in various configurations have been carried out on a test bench, as well as endurance tests involving a large number of consecutive representative drops.
Certain factors may affect the service life (extreme temperatures, harsh environments, contact with chemicals, the Roc Solo falling from a high height, modifications to the equipment, etc... (non-exhaustive list; please consult the instruction manual).
If in doubt, the Roc Solo can be sent to the manufacturer for inspection and re-certification (recommended every 3 to 5 years in the event of very intensive use).
We dispatch the Roc Solo quickly, with orders processed within 5 working days and delivered within 5 to 10 working days (however subject to the carrier and delivery address). You will receive a confirmation email with a tracking number so you can track your order.
